An Early Escape
Dear Friends and Family,
In answer to the age old question, "Where the hell are the Bowens now!" Let me say we are back in Mexico at our lovely old Mexican house on Calle Guerrero. After a summer of Shakespeare in Ashland and nearly selling our house (that is whole other story!), we arrived in Puerto Vallarta last Tuesday. As those of you know who have followed my ramblings in the past, the early stages after arrival ("settling in") are quite hectic. This past week was no different. Thus, the reason for the lateness of my first contact.
Polley needed a serious hair upgrade (We will call it "79.2"), so that was Wednesday. It was manicure and pedicure on Thursday along with me seeing an orthopedic surgeon over a Baker's cyst that develop in the last couple of weeks in the US, the result, I think of too many times getting up and down while staining my deck! After the doctor's confirming the ailment, I am now scheduled for 10 sessions of Physical Therapy. I did the first on Friday. In this remote outpost north of PV, in a tiny little sparse clinic, I was subjected to electrical muscle stimulation, laser treatment and ultrasound for more than an hour. Seemed a little like electrical voodoo, but, I must admit that I do feel better and have my second session this afternoon.
Other than those events, it has been relatively "same-o, same-o. It is very warm. Temperatures are regularly between 88 and 90 and the heat index suggestes it feels more like 105! Our cat is none too happy, but I think we are all adjusting. We have connected with our old waiter friends and are settling in (there is that term again!) to a comfortable routine. The town is still very quiet in terms of tourists. Some cruise ships are bringing folks, but most of the snow-birds won't arrive until the end of the month at the earliest. However, we are pleased to be here and to reaquaint ourselves with the town. We had dinner last night at Utopia, an Indian restaurant that sits right on the Rio Cuale. Good food, lovely setting and, with the river, quite plesant. Last night, however stayed very warm and I awoke at 5 this morning and it was still 79-degrees. You have to change your thinking down here. You "can't wait" for winter! More soon. Ed and Polley
